Hyderabad: The State government has directed district collectors and police officials to remain alert and take all precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property amid heavy rains forecast to continue for the next two days. People have been advised to stay away from waterfalls and other tourist spots, as well as rivers, rivulets and other streams that are in spate.
During a video conference with collectors, police commissioners and SPs, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju asked officials to establish control rooms at every district headquarters and closely monitor the situation. He stressed coordination among different departments, particularly in districts along the Godavari basin, and directed officials to alert people living in low-lying areas.
The officials were asked to focus on districts expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next two days and take preventive measures to minimise public inconvenience. The government has kept NDRF and SDRF teams on standby for emergency assistance.
DGP CV Anand said 249 picnic spots with dangerous water bodies and 167 other tourist locations had been identified. Police have taken measures to prevent people from visiting these places during heavy rains and floods. Twelve SDRF companies have also been kept ready for emergencies.
