The Iraqi Resistance movement, Saraya Awliya al-Dam (SAD), has called for the expulsion of the Saudi ambassador from the Arab country following joint Saudi-US attacks on positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU).
The SAD said in a Wednesday statement that the government should not compromise on the “blood of the Iraqi sons” who were killed in the recent Saudi-US attack on the PMU, which is the umbrella resistance group in Iraq and is also known as Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.
The SAD is a resistance group mostly based in northern Iraq and in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan. It made the statement in reaction to reports that officials from the Iraqi government were planning a visit to Saudi Arabia to ease tensions with the kingdom.
“We demand that the Iraqi government review all agreements and contracts concluded with the United States and abandon its planned visit to Saudi Arabia,” said the statement.
It said the SAD and other resistance groups in Iraq are awaiting an official stance from the Iraqi government that could match the gravity of the US-Saudi attack and appreciate the sacrifices of the people martyred in the attack.
“The Saudi ambassador must be immediately expelled from Iraq, and diplomatic and economic relations with Saudi Arabia must be severed,” the group said.
The SAD said the “honorable people of Iraq” would press the government to hand over its arms and defensive capacities to the resistance if it neglects its duties and fails to show a proper response to Saudi Arabia and the US.
The statement came a day after Saudi Arabia and the US bombarded PMF positions deep inside Iraq, violating the Arab country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The PMF and allied groups in Iraq have contributed to a regional resistance campaign against US and Israeli aggressions that intensified since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in 2023 and later expanded to attacks on other countries of the region, including Iran and Lebanon.
