Two people have been killed and five others injured, including a toddler, in a mass shooting at Seattle Center as thousands of people attended a food festival.
The gunfire broke out Sunday evening at Seattle Center, a 74-acre park complex that was hosting the annual Bite of Seattle festival.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson issued a statement Sunday night saying police had taken one person into custody, though earlier reports had indicated two individuals were detained.
The Seattle Police Department has not confirmed whether additional suspects remain at large, nor have they disclosed an apparent motive.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as masses of attendees ran for cover.
A reporter at the scene said several loud pops were heard, followed by what appeared to be rapid gunfire.
A Seattle Police Department spokesperson said he was en route to the scene and could not provide additional details at the time.
The Seattle Fire Department said emergency crews treated five injured people at the scene, all of whom were transported to hospitals. Among them was a 40-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries.
At Harborview Medical Center, officials confirmed that all four patients admitted had gunshot wounds, including a 56-year-old woman in critical condition undergoing surgery, while the others were reported to be in stable condition.
Police have launched an investigation and urged the public to avoid the area northwest of downtown Seattle.
