Adilabad: An inter-district motorbike-lifting gang was busted, with police arresting 10 members of the gang. Six other members of the gang were absconding. Police seized seven motorbikes, eight mobile phones, three auto-rickshaws, a car and a knife from the accused.
SP Akhil Mahajan said the arrested members were Yasar Mohammad, Akbar Khan, Umar Khan, Abdul Farooq, Arbas Khan, Mohammad Adnan, Nasir Bin Javed, Azam Khan, Shaik Iftikar and Shaik Abutalaha, all from different parts of Nirmal town. Imran, Jain, Junaid, Sofiyan, Fardeen and Adanan, also from Nirmal town, were still at large.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing offences in the erstwhile Warangal, Karimnagar and Hyderabad districts for a long time. They admitted to lifting motorbikes parked in front of commercial establishments and houses while moving in a rented car. They revealed that they were selling the two-wheelers to Iftikar and Abutalaha, Akhil explained.
Akhil said the 10 were detained during a vehicle check at Kupti village. He stated that they tried to terrorise policemen by brandishing a knife after police intercepted their car. A special team was formed to nab the accused who were absconding. The gang was involved in an attempt to steal an auto-rickshaw at RIMS-Adilabad on July 21, he added.
Utnoor ASP Ruthwik Kotte Sai, Ichoda Inspector Ch Ramesh, CCS Inspector Chandrashekhar and Neradigonda SI Syed Imran were present.
