Parents have alleged that private engineering colleges in Telangana are collecting additional amounts ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 45,000 from students admitted through TG EAPCET 2026 counselling, despite rules permitting only university and NBA fees apart from tuition

Hyderabad: From career development and uniform charges to the book lending scheme, private engineering colleges are collecting hefty amounts from parents and students who secured admissions under the convener quota through TG EAPCET 2026 counselling.
Thousands of students reporting to private colleges to confirm their seats are allegedly being forced to pay between Rs 15,000 and Rs 45,000 under different heads in violation of the rules. This is in addition to the tuition fee.
For instance, a student who went to report at his allotted college in Ghatkesar was shocked when he was asked to pay a staggering Rs 49,900, including Rs 13,400 towards admission, NBA and special fees, Rs 18,000 towards career development charges, Rs 14,000 towards uniform charges and Rs 4,500 for the book lending scheme (optional).
Similarly, a parent who admitted his child to a college near Gandipet was asked to pay Rs 40,000 as an additional fee and another Rs 8,500 as miscellaneous charges. A college near Nagole has listed first-year admission fee details totalling Rs 28,000.
Speaking to Telangana Today, a parent said the college management asked him to pay Rs 28,000 and another Rs 8,000 per annum for the next three years. “I could not question the college staff because I was afraid my daughter might lose her seat,” the parent said.
Except for the university fee of Rs 2,500 and the NBA fee of Rs 3,000 per annum, institutions are not allowed to collect fees under any other heads during the admission process.
Another parent said, “While accepting the transfer certificate, the college staff asked me whether my child did not want to participate in the final phase of counselling and wished to join the same college. If so, I would have to pay Rs 30,000 in the first year. When I asked about the fees, they said it included Rs 14,000 as library fee, Rs 10,000 as examination fee and Rs 6,000 towards uniforms. They also told me that I would have to pay another Rs 20,000 by the end of the fourth year.”
Citing complaints from parents, Telangana Schools and Technical Colleges Employees Association president Aineni Santosh Kumar said that, in addition to the tuition fee, amounts ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 45,000 were being collected without issuing receipts. He demanded that the government take action against colleges violating the rules and collecting fees arbitrarily.
