The United States House of Representatives has passed a large military spending package worth $1.15 billion by a narrow margin, notwithstanding the worries voiced by Democratic lawmakers about the expenditure and the intensified collaboration on military technology with the Israeli regime.
On Wednesday, the bill was approved in the House by a vote of 216 to 212, primarily along party lines, with six Democrats supporting it and seven Republicans voting against it.
The 2027 National Defence Authorisation Act, commonly referred to as NDAA, embodies President Donald Trump’s proposal for a substantial escalation of the nation’s unparalleled military budget, aiming to raise expenditures from $900 billion last year to $1.5 trillion.
Trump has stated that the increase is essential as the United States is engaged in a large-scale onslaught on Iran, which Washington began alongside the Tel Aviv regime in late February.
“Final vote total for the NDAA today, which tragically merges our military technology and supply chains with Israel’s,” Republican Representative Thomas Massie, a vocal critic of the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran and someone who has had disagreements with the White House, stated in a social media post regarding the vote.
He added, “Let’s hope this version fails in the Senate because Section 219 is a betrayal of our sovereignty.”
The 2027 NDAA has faced criticism for a clause that seeks to broaden military technological partnerships with Israel, even as there is increasing voter support for terminating military aid to the regime.
The bill currently faces an uncertain future in the Senate, with Democrats expected to oppose the significant expense at a time when the White House is attempting to cut back access to social programs.
Last week, Senate Democrats prevented the discussion of the NDAA through a vote, with Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer describing it as a “permission slip” for the government’s military actions against Iran.
The NDAA is typically regarded as a vital legislative measure; however, this year it includes other contentious aspects, such as support for Ukraine.
The package further contains SAVE America, a major focus for the president that seeks to establish new voting limitations in response to what Trump has misleadingly depicted as rampant fraud.
