Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has warned European countries that providing military bases or territory to the United States would place them “in the ranks of the aggressors.”

Gharibabadi issued the stern warning in a post on his X account on Thursday after a meeting with 25 European ambassadors and chargés d’affaires in Tehran.

He said that during the meeting, he outlined Iran’s positions on the ongoing developments and the United States’ “criminal” actions and noted that Iran had inflicted a heavy defeat on aggressors during the 40-day US-Israeli war.

“In the new round of military aggression, we will decisively defend our land and national interests,” the senior Iranian diplomat emphasized.

Gharibabadi said that the recent wars had brought “no strategic gains” for the US, adding that they “only endanger regional and global peace and security.”

Among the Europeans, however, he noted that a small number of European countries, including Spain, had adopted “principled positions.”

“However, European governments should be aware that providing bases and territory to aggressors will place them among the aggressors,” Gharibabadi said.

His remarks came after UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Wednesday approved the continued use of British military bases by the United States for certain strikes on Iran, maintaining a policy established under his predecessor, Keir Starmer.

Bulgaria’s Parliament also on Tuesday backed a government proposal to allow the US military to deploy military aircraft at Bezmer Air Base in support of operations related to the war against Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei warned that any cooperation with military aggression against Iran would make Sofia complicit in unlawful acts of aggression.

Baghaei said Bulgaria is fully aware that the recent US military aggression against Iran constituted a violation of the UN Charter and international law.
