Hyderabad: The Attapur police arrested six persons, including an alleged ganja peddler and a sub-peddler, and seized 8.410 kg of dry ganja worth Rs. 4.2 lakh, electronic weighing machines, a sealing machine, packing material, seven mobile phones and a motorcycle allegedly used to transport the contraband.
According to the police, on receiving information, a team laid a trap near the Hanuman Temple on Bhopal Nagar Road in Attapur at around 12.50 pm on Sunday.
A youth, Mohd Faizan Bakshi (19), who arrived on a motorcycle carrying a grey-and-black luggage bag, was intercepted after five others approached him to buy ganja.
During questioning, the main suspect, Faizan, allegedly confessed to procuring the ganja from a supplier identified as Sailesh of Nagpur, Maharashtra, who is absconding.
Police said Faizan supplied the contraband to Syed Sadiq (40), who allegedly repackaged it into smaller packets using electronic weighing machines and a sealing machine before selling it to local consumers.
The police recovered 8.410 kg of ganja worth Rs. 4.2 lakh from the luggage bag carried by Faizan.
They also seized three electronic weighing machines, a sealing machine, packing covers, an empty luggage bag, seven mobile phones and the motorcycle used to transport the narcotic substance.
The remaining four suspects – Ali Ahmed (55), Riyaz Ahmed Khan (22), Mohammed Jaffar (21) and Tausif Baig (22) – allegedly admitted that they had come to purchase ganja for personal consumption and further sale, police said.
All six accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Efforts are on to trace the absconding supplier from Nagpur.
