In response to reporters’ questions about the results of the Taiwan elections, Nasser Kan’ani said Iran, based on its foreign policy, respects the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries.
At the same time, Iran declared its support for the One China policy.
He added that Iran once again declares its firm support for the right of the Republic of China to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the reunification of China based on the peaceful development of both sides of the straits.
China has sovereignty over Chinese Taipei – also known as Taiwan. Virtually all states recognize that sovereignty under the internationally recognized one-China policy. It means states would not establish diplomatic contact with the secessionist government in Taipei.
Beijing has repeatedly warned it will use force, if necessary, to add Taiwan to China’s mainland.
