Hyderabad: For someone who is a die-hard fan of Argentina in the on-going World Cup football in the USA, former cricketer B. Nanda Kishore Sandilya was delighted that his dream of seeing his favourite team in the final came true within 12 hours after he presented Argentina jersey to his former Hyderabad teammate and now Telangana Minister Mohd Azharuddin.
And, for Sandilya, meeting his childhood hero was another “unforgettable experience”.
Sandilya credits the former India captain for inspiring him in his early cricketing journey from the under-15 days.
“I have presented the commemorative jersey as a gesture of friendship and sporting excellence,” said Sandilya.
During their meeting, both Sandilya and Azhar also discussed a shared vision of developing a world-class cricket training centre and international-standard multi-sports infrastructure in Hyderabad to nurture future generations of athletes and strengthen the city’s position as a global sports destination.
Sandilya also explained in detail to Azharuddin The Nikola Tesla Smart City AI Multi-Sports & Entertainment Complex which is a next-generation sports ecosystem designed to develop world-class athletes while creating an integrated destination for sports, health, wellness, education, entertainment, and community engagement.
“Originally conceptualized for the United States market, the platform can be customized for India, with a major emphasis on cricket excellence, supported by AI-driven athlete development and international-standard multi-sport facilities,” Shandilya said.
Interestingly, Sandilya’s father BAV Sandilya and his trusted advisor Dr KK Rao were instrumental in getting the then AP State Government policy defined for cricket public infrastructure and funding approvals for both Uppal and the Vizag stadia in 1990s by the then Chief Minister M. Chenna Reddy’s administration.
And Azhar’s response was positive too. “He loved it totally and said very good this is also my dream project to build this public enterprise infrastructure for future generations cricketers, athletes to become world class players to compete at international competitions,” Sandilya said.
