Mahabubabad: Students of the Tribal Welfare Girls’ Residential School at Gandhinagar in Kothaguda mandal of the district have been facing a severe water crisis.
The students took to the streets and staged a dharna in front of the school on Thursday, demanding that the authorities address the water crisis. They complained that they had been facing water shortages for the past month and were finding it difficult even to use the toilets in the morning before getting ready for school.
The protesting students alleged that the school management had failed to provide enough water to maintain basic hygiene in the bathrooms. They also alleged that the headmaster had collected Rs. 10 from each student to carry out repairs but failed to do so.
The students alleged that when they questioned the teachers about the water problem, they were harassed and warned that their internal marks would be reduced in the examinations. They raised slogans demanding that officials immediately provide adequate water facilities.
Kothaguda SI Raj Kumar reached the spot and interacted with the students. Local Congress leader B Roop Singh brought the matter to the notice of Minister Seethakka, who spoke to the students over the phone and assured them that their problems would be addressed.
