The Islamic Republic of Iran Army has expressed the readiness of the entire armed Forces to defend the nation’s rights and establish the arrangement envisioned by the country in the Strait of Hormuz.
Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia made the remarks on state TV on Sunday amid renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by criminal US aerial assaults on Iran in gross violation of last month’s war-ending deal between the two sides.
He said the United States is seeking to formalize an improper shipping route south of the strait that is inconsistent with the provisions of the Tehran-Washington Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
“Under the terms of the MoU, responsibility for all navigational arrangements in the strait lies with Iran. In a democratic and peaceful initiative, the Islamic Republic is working in cooperation with Oman to establish joint arrangements there,” he added.
“As the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, we are tasked with safeguarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the transit of oil tankers. We have stood resolutely to ensure the implementation of arrangements consistent with the MoU and in line with Iran’s position.”
Akraminia also noted that the United States’ unwarranted interference has undermined security in the strategic waterway and led to confrontations there.
He further advised the US to comply with the provisions of the MoU and respect regional security instead of exposing its allies to insecurity.
“Whenever they (the Americans) have intervened and targeted our islands, coastline, or facilities, they have received a forceful response. They intervened once again last night, and we responded firmly. This has been our approach from the outset, and we have consistently sought to enhance our state of readiness,” the Army spokesman said.
Meanwhile, he expressed his gratitude to Iranians and Iraqis for their million-strong turnout at the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The US and the Israeli regime launched their illegal war of aggression against Iran on February 28 by assassinating Ayatollah Khamenei, alongside some of his family members.
However, forty days later, on April 8, the enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid Iran’s brave resistance, successful retaliatory operations, and powerful grip on the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 17, Tehran and Washington signed the Pakistan-brokered MoU, which calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts and includes a commitment from both sides to hold further talks on a final agreement in the next 60 days.
