Cumbum: Four persons from a marriage party died here in Markapur district early on Friday after a truck hit them from behind, police said.
Markapur sub-divisional police officer U Naga Raju said the accident occurred around 1 am on Bengaluru Highway in Cumbum when the bride went into a roadside temple to offer prayers. The others were waiting in the vehicle outside.
“The bride’s family stopped their autorickshaw near the temple and a truck hit the family members from behind. Four people– the bride’s two elder brothers, her sister-in-law and a cousin died on the spot,” Naga Raju said.
Fortunately, the bride survived the accident as she was inside the temple.
According to police, the marriage party was on it way to the wedding and stopped by at the roadside temple for brief prayers when the tragedy struck.
Police said the truck driver fled the spot. Further probe is on.
