BRS warns people’s movement over delay in Medchal Metro expansion

Hyderabad: BRSLP Whip and Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda lashed out at the Congress government for neglecting the proposed expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail to Medchal and failing to secure Central funding for it. He warned that if the government continued to delay the project, the BRS would join hands with citizen organisations and lead a people’s movement.

Addressing a press conference along with members of the Medchal Metro Rail Sadhana Samithi at his Kompally office on Monday, Vivekananda said the State government lacked the commitment to implement the project. He said the government had taken over the Metro project from L&T only to leave its expansion in limbo.

He alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was misleading the public by projecting differences with Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in Hyderabad, while the two maintained cordial relations in Delhi. “Revanth Reddy and Kishan Reddy have raised the curtain on a political drama after the State failed to obtain the necessary funds for the Metro expansion,” he added.

The BRS MLA said Revanth Reddy, who failed to undertake any major development works in Malkajgiri during his tenure as MP, was now neglecting Medchal’s public transport needs as Chief Minister.

Reaffirming the BRS’s support for the Medchal Metro Rail Sadhana Samithi, Vivekananda said the party would intensify its agitation to press the government to immediately launch Metro Rail works in the region. He warned that the issue would ultimately be decided in the “people’s court” if the government continued to delay the project.
