Leopard movement triggers panic in Khanapur villages near Warangal

Residents of Khanapur and nearby villages in Warangal were alarmed after a leopard was spotted in an oil palm plantation. Forest Department officials confirmed the presence of pugmarks, installed camera traps and advised people to avoid venturing alone into the area.

Warangal: Movement of a leopard triggered panic among residents of Khanapur and surrounding villages on Sunday.

Locals claimed that a leopard was found moving between an oil palm farm between Khanapur and Kottur villages. They stated that it was initially sighted in an agriculture field behind a police station in Khanapur. They urged the Forest officials to take steps to divert the animal into deep forests and to avoid human loss.


Forest officials urged the public not to move alone around the farm and to avoid sudden confrontation with the leopard. They confirmed its pug marks were recorded in the oil palm farm. They stated that CCTV camera traps were installed to track movement of the animal. They said that the leopard might have accidentally drifted towards human settlements in search of prey.
