Siddipet: Former Minister T Harish Rao, who is known for helping the needy, helped a young man who lost his leg in an accident by presenting him with a prosthetic leg.
V Ranjith (20) of Pedda Kodur met with an accident a year ago, following which doctors amputated his right leg to save his life. The incident left his parents, Mallesham and Salavva, in shock. While Mallesham was working as a daily wager to feed his family, Salavva was rolling beedies to support her husband.
In a bid to buy him a prosthetic leg, the couple visited several hospitals where doctors suggested that they would need to spend Rs. 8 lakh to get a prosthetic leg fitted for their son. Unable to mobilise the amount, the couple lost all hope of seeing their son walk again. Ranjith, who was in the third year of a graduation course, was also worried about attending classes again.
Coming to know about the struggles of Ranjith and his parents through sarpanch Samala Sunitha Madhu, Harish Rao invited them to his office and assured them of all support. He spoke to the doctor concerned and arranged the prosthetic leg within 15 days by spending Rs. 5 lakh. Ranjith, who stood on his own for the first time after the accident, was overwhelmed.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjith said that he had lost all hope after losing his leg. He said that he had lost the confidence to complete his studies and take up a job. When he stood again on Thursday, Ranjith said he had regained his confidence. Stating that they would remain indebted to the former minister, Mallesham and Salavva thanked Harish Rao for his support.
