Rains lash Hyderabad after days of dry spell, heat returns soon

Hyderabad received intermittent rainfall late Monday night, bringing brief relief from heat before temperatures rose again close to 40 degree Celsius. The IMD forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the city over the next 24 hours

Hyderabad: After playing truant for days, rains did lash different parts of Hyderabad and suburbs with varying intensity late on Monday night.

While weather forecasts indicated the possibility of rains in the city from Monday afternoon, the cloudy skies held off till late hours. In some parts of the city and suburbs, the rains continued till early hours, resulting in a pleasant Tuesday morning.


However, the respite turned out to be short-lived as heat conditions returned soon, with the mercury rising close to the 40-degree Celsius mark and many parts recording day temperatures ranging between 37 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius.

According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS) data, on Monday night, the highest rainfall around the city was at Ramachandrapuram with 114.5 mm.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad said heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Peddapalle district, and at a few places over Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and at isolated places over Rangareddy, Jagtial, Mancherial, Kamareddy and Kumurambheem districts. However, heatwave conditions prevailed at isolated pockets over Adilabad and Peddapalle.

The IMD forecast for Hyderabad for the next 24 hours indicates a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the evening or night. The temperatures in the city are expected to be in the range of 24 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius.
