Hyderabad: Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu met Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Monday and submitted a memorandum on several issues related to Telangana’s industrial sector.

Keeping in mind the interests of palm oil farmers, he urged the Centre to restore the import duty on crude palm oil to 44 per cent. During the meeting, Sridhar Babu informed the Union Minister that the Hyundai Group had proposed setting up a Global Innovation and R&D Centre in the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City with an investment of Rs 8,500 crore. In this context, he requested the Centre’s support for developing a logistics hub there.

He also pointed out that the State government was preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for developing 15 to 20 plug-and-play industrial parks under the Bhavya Scheme Phase 1. “If approvals are granted during the June-July 2026 application window, it will significantly strengthen the state’s manufacturing sector,” the Minister said.

He specifically highlighted the need to sanction an Aero-Defence Corridor for Telangana. He stated that the State government was ready to establish a National Design Centre in Hyderabad and requested the Centre’s support. He also sought the allocation of two Mega Leather Parks under the Mega Leather, Footwear and Accessories Cluster Development (MLFACD) Scheme.

Further, the Minister requested approval for a Multi-Modal Logistics Park being developed at Manoharabad in Medak district with an investment of Rs 2,050 crore in partnership with the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML). He also sought funding under the Trade Infrastructure for Exports Scheme for the irradiation facility being set up at Koheda in Rangareddy district.
