The Israeli military has announced the death of one of its occupation forces and the serious injury of another in a retaliatory strike by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah on the north of the occupied territories.

“Hezbollah fired a large barrage of rockets toward northern Israel on Friday morning, killing an Israeli soldier and seriously wounding another,” Israeli media cited the occupation army as saying later in the day.

The reports said “some 20 rockets” were fired from Lebanon at military positions near the settlements of Shomera and Shtula, close to the southern Lebanese border.

Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Manar television channel confirmed in a post on its X social media account the retaliatory attack by Hezbollah and the number of Israeli casualties.

“Enemy media: An announcement of the killing of an Israeli soldier and the serious wounding of another in the Shtula settlement as a result of Hezbollah firing a number of rockets this morning,” the television network wrote.

In a statement on Thursday, Hezbollah reported that the group had fired salvos of artillery rounds and rockets toward the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona in response to the regime’s continuous assaults on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The resistance group also noted that its fighters launched incendiary rockets at the Biranit Woodlands in response to an earlier Israeli strike, reiterating that it would not hesitate to defend Lebanese villages and towns and would respond to the enemy’s aggressive actions.

The Israeli military has been carrying out attacks against the Lebanese territory since October 7, when it launched a campaign of genocide in the Gaza Strip, prompting retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah in support of the Palestinian people in the besieged territory.

The movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the regime continues its onslaught.

Israel has killed more than 20,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 53,000 others in Gaza since that October day. Thousands more are believed to be lost and buried under rubble.

The regime has largely cut off access to water, food and power supplies in Gaza.
