A 48-year-old farmer from Adilabad allegedly died by suicide after consuming pesticide, reportedly distressed over his rain-damaged jowar produce not being loaded at a market yard. Police said the farmer had brought 35 quintals of damaged crop for sale.

Adilabad: A 48-year-old farmer died allegedly by suicide by consuming pesticide as he was depressed after his damaged jowar produce was not loaded in a vehicle at a market yard in Ponna village in Sirikonda mandal on Tuesday night.
Police said that Nugure Pandurang from the village resorted to the drastic step when he was disheartened after his 35 quintals jowar produce, damaged by rains, was not loaded in a vehicle. He attempted to die by consuming the pesticide which he was carrying with him in the afternoon. He was immediately shifted to RIMS-Adilabad. He died while undergoing treatment at night.
Pandurang cultivated jowar crop in his eight acres of land. He brought his produce to the market yard a week back. His produce was weighed and was allotted a number to load the grains in a vehicle. However, the grains got soaked and sprouted due to recent rains. He was depressed after the officials denied to load the grains in a vehicle.
The farmer is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter. His Sunitha lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered. Investigations are underway.
