Hyderabad: Gymkhana FC entered the semifinals of the Bolarum Challenge Cup football tournament, organised by Bolarum Sporting Club at Bolarum, with a 2–0 win against Bolarum Sporting on Tuesday.
Sporting started brightly and created an early opportunity in the 10th minute when Piyush delivered a fine cross to Sai Satya, but the chance could not be converted as a Gymkhana defender made a timely intervention.
Gymkhana FC took the lead in the 20th minute of the first half through Jobin, who finished a well-worked move to put his side ahead 1–0.
In the second half, Gymkhana continued to press and doubled their advantage in the 75th minute. Majid capitalised on a rebound after goalkeeper Likith’s initial save, making it 2–0.
Bolarum Sporting fought hard until the final whistle and nearly reduced the deficit in the closing minutes when Abhishek got a good scoring opportunity, but he was unable to find the target.
Despite the defeat, the young Bolarum Sporting side displayed good spirit and determination throughout the match but lacked experience.
