Hyderabad: BRS Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao condemned the sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl in Khammam, describing it as a reminder of the collapsing law and order in Telangana under the Congress government.

Along with former Minister Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, he visited NIMS Hospital and met the minor girl. Later, speaking to the media persons, Harish Rao sought an explanation from the Congress government for such a serious crime. The government should immediately constitute a fast-track court and ensure stringent punishment for the offenders, he demanded.

“The girl suffered fractures in both hands and is currently unable to walk. Doctors say her recovery will be extremely difficult,” he said.

The BRS Deputy Floor leader slammed the Congress government, saying that the law and order situation had deteriorated significantly. About five to six POCSO cases were being reported every day across the State, he charged.

Referring to incidents involving minor girls in Yalal, Bomraspet, Basheerabad, Mominpet and Nirmal, Harish Rao said the increasing number of such crimes reflected the government’s failure to ensure the safety of children.

The BRS government ensured women’s safety through She Teams, Women Protection Wing and other initiatives. In contrast, the Congress government had weakened the system by burdening senior officers with multiple responsibilities, thereby compromising women’s safety, he added.
