Hyderabad: The State government has decided to prepare a project-wise action plan for the speedy completion of major irrigation works in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, following Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s recent inspection of the projects. The government aims to complete most of the major irrigation projects in the region by 2027.

At a high-level review meeting on Monday, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy instructed officials to resolve bottlenecks related to land acquisition, rehabilitation, power connectivity and contractor performance within fixed timelines. He directed Chief Engineers to submit completion schedules for every major component of the projects.

For the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, officials were asked to complete the main trunk infrastructure up to Karivena Reservoir by December 2026 and expedite rehabilitation measures for displaced families. The pumping stations under the Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme will be made fully operational by March 2027.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also directed officials to expedite land acquisition for the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal, Rajiv Bhima, Koilsagar, Jawahar Nettampadu and Thummilla lift irrigation schemes, while ordering monthly monitoring of project progress and contractor performance.

The Minister asked officials to explore the possibility of reducing dependence on conventional power sources to ensure the long-term sustainability of major lift irrigation schemes and enhance the use of renewable energy.
