Hyderabad: Three persons who allegedly poisoned a family member by mixing ‘datura’ fruit in his food, causing his death, and later chopped up his body, were convicted by a local court in the city on Monday. The victim’s son and daughter were sentenced to death, while his wife was awarded life imprisonment.
According to the police, Kishan Maruti Suthar, a retired railway employee, lived with his wife Ganga Bai, son Kishan Suthar and daughter Prapulla at RTC Colony, Moula Ali, under the limits of the Malkajgiri police station.
Maruti received a monthly pension of Rs 30,000. Ganga Bai, Kishan and Prapulla frequently quarrelled with him, demanding money for household expenses and other needs.
“When Maruti refused to give money, they allegedly planned to kill him. The trio procured datura fruit, mixed it with food and gave it to Maruti for a couple of days. After two days, Maruti died. Ganga Bai, Kishan and Prapulla then chopped the body into small pieces and tried to dispose of it. However, neighbours alerted the police after a foul smell emanated from the house, and all three were later arrested for the murder,” police said.
After the trial, the court awarded the death sentence to Kishan and his sister Prapulla, while Ganga Bai was sentenced to life imprisonment.
