Kushinagar (UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said his government had dealt firmly with miscreants in the state, asserting that those who did not mend their ways through ‘boli’ (words) were compelled to do so through the ‘goli’ (bullets).
Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of 278 development projects worth more than Rs 424 crore in Kushinagar district, Adityanath contrasted the state’s past image with what he described as its present transformation under the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in UP.
“The earlier governments had made Uttar Pradesh known for ‘katta’ (country-made pistols) and bombs. Today, the same Uttar Pradesh is manufacturing BrahMos missiles for the country’s security,” the chief minister said.
Referring to criminals and anti-social elements, he said, “We have set these ‘shohde’ (miscreants) right. Those who did not improve, those who did not listen to words, ultimately listened to bullets.” The chief minister alleged that the previous governments had failed to ensure public safety and had allowed criminal activities to flourish, adversely affecting traders, farmers and women. Without naming any political party, he referred to the previous government (before 2017) as “jungle party”.
“There was terror of ‘jungle party’ and mafias ruled the roost,” he said. The chief minister said the “double-engine government” had effectively tackled both encephalitis and organised crime, creating an environment conducive to development, security and employment.
“We have ended both ‘mafia and macchar’. The encephalitis disease has almost been eliminated, just as mafia rule has been eliminated from Uttar Pradesh.
“Mosquitoes brought disease and mafias brought unemployment. The double-engine government has addressed both problems,” he said.
The chief minister said Kushinagar is no longer a symbol of backwardness. It is emerging as a symbol of a new UP moving ahead at bullet speed.
The chief minister said Kushinagar, associated with Lord Ram’s son Kush, Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira, has undergone significant transformation over the past decade.
“Nine to ten years ago, Kushinagar was grappling with an identity crisis, encephalitis, mafia rule, hunger, unemployment and administrative disorder. Mining mafias were active, farmers were exploited and people did not receive fair prices for their produce,” he said.
He also alleged that reports of deaths due to hunger among members of the Musahar community had emerged from parts of the district in the past.
According to Adityanath, the situation began changing after 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and through the efforts of a “double-engine government”. He said facilities that were once considered unimaginable in Kushinagar, including a medical college, an international airport and an agriculture and technology university, had now become a reality.
The chief minister also referred to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, describing it as a symbol of centuries of struggle, faith and determination.
“After the temple at Lord Ram’s birthplace was demolished centuries ago, generations struggled for its reconstruction. The Ram temple project gained real momentum during the tenure of the BJP’s double-engine government,” he said.
Adityanath accused the Congress of not facilitating the construction of the temple despite being in power after Independence and alleged that the Samajwadi Party had opposed the movement and termed it “Ram Drohi”. “Despite obstacles, our resolve remained unwavering. Today, a grand temple of Lord Ram stands in Ayodhya, and the city reflects spiritual grandeur and modern development,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of electoral participation, the chief minister said a single vote in a democracy had far-reaching consequences.
“The power of the people’s mandate is visible from Ayodhya to Lucknow and Delhi. It is because of this mandate that the Ram temple was built, Article 370 was abrogated and Uttar Pradesh is becoming a centre for BrahMos missile production,” he said.
Referring to India’s defence capabilities, Adityanath said, “When India’s brave soldiers fire BrahMos missiles at the enemy, Pakistan starts crying for help.” Assuring continued support for development projects in the district, he said the government would ensure that lack of funds did not hinder growth and every rupee spent would be accounted for.
“Kushinagar was never backward. It was pushed into disease, hunger and unemployment because of the flawed policies of previous governments.
“Today, it is moving ahead rapidly on the strength of development, education, healthcare, employment and modern infrastructure,” he said.
