Hyderabad: To prevent sewage accumulation, flood risk and environmental pollution in areas surrounding the Gurramguda Reserve Forest, officials of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) have decided to prepare a comprehensive action plan.
On Monday, MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy convened a meeting with officials of the concerned departments to discuss various issues.
The Commissioner directed officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to construct sewerage lines in six areas, including Hastinapuram, Sripuram Colony, Vinutha Enclave, Gandhinagar, Padmavati Colony and Sama Nagar, to prevent sewage pollution, a press release stated on Monday. For this, the MMC will allot the necessary funds to the HMWSSB for the construction of a new sewerage trunk main from the Aviation Academy to the Sagar Road culvert, it added.
The MMC chief said the necessary approvals from the Forest Department would be obtained for the construction of a box-type stormwater drain in the forest area. Tenders would also be floated for the construction of a box-type stormwater drain from the Kapra Lake outlet.
The Forest Department should build a compound wall to prevent waste dumping and anti-social activities along the reserve forest boundaries, and administrative approvals would be obtained for the construction of an outlet sluice in Kapra Lake. The Irrigation Department will construct the outlet sluice in Kapra Lake, according to the press release.
