Hyderabad: A Telugu student from Hyderabad lost his life while rescuing his three friends from drowning in a river in Louisiana, in the United States.

According to reports, 24-year-old Anurup Reddy was swimming with friends in the Sabine River near Toro Road Park during an outing, when three members of the group reportedly drifted in the river and began struggling against the strong currents.

Anurup rushed to their help and successfully rescued all three friends, bringing them back to safety one after another. However, while attempting to return to shore it is believed that a fishing line got entangled around his leg, restricting his movement in the water. As the river current intensified, Anurup was unable to free himself and reach the surface.

Bystanders immediately attempted a rescue, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. He was later taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Anurup hailed from Kavadipalli village in Abdullapurmet mandal in Ranga Reddy district. He was the second son of real estate businessman Rajender Reddy.

Anurup had moved to the United States nearly five years ago along with his elder brother, Ashrith Reddy, to pursue higher education. He recently completed his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of North Texas and was preparing to begin his professional career.

The family and local NRI groups in the United States started efforts to repatriate his mortal remains to India.
