Karimnagar: Karimnagar police took Subodh Singh, the mastermind behind the sensational PMJ jewellery shop dacoity, into custody on a PT (Prisoner in Transit) warrant from Purnia jail in Bihar and produced him before a Karimnagar court. Since Subodh Singh was accused in other cases registered in different courts, police had to obtain PT warrant permissions from six courts before taking him into custody.
A special police team brought Subodh Singh to Karimnagar on Thursday night and he was produced before the judge at midnight. Later, he was shifted to the district prison after the judge sent him to judicial remand.
For further investigation into the case, police filed a petition in the court seeking one-week custody of Subodh Singh, Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam informed. He said more details would be revealed later as the investigation was still going on.
It may be recalled that the PMJ jewellery showroom dacoity that took place on May 5 became sensational in the State as the dacoits fled with gold ornaments after opening fire at the staff. Though 13 accused were involved in the case, five thieves entered the shop with pistols. Subodh Singh operated the entire operation from a Bihar jail. The accused, who stayed in a private lodge in Dharmapuri for two days before the robbery, escaped by crossing the Godavari river near Dharmapuri after the theft.
In order to trace the accused, police formed special teams and sent them to different States. Police arrested three accused, including the main accused Raghunath Karmakar alias Jagira Singh, Ravish Kumar and assistant Mehtab Khan, and produced them before the court on May 14.
