Mahabubnagar: Thieves damaged the SBI ATM and fled with the cash box from the machine at Telangana Chowrastha here in the early hours of Tuesday. The cash vending machine is completely damaged and the stolen amount is yet to be estimated.
Before breaking into the ATM centre, the thieves damaged the CCTV cameras and other equipment that can aid in their identification. Locals immediately alerted the police and bank officials about the incident, according to reports.
The police officials said a clues team was deployed at the ATM centre to collect any finger prints of the offenders. They would be matched with offenders, who were nabbed in similar thefts in the past, the police.
Bank officials were checking the transactions and only then they would be able to announce the total amount stolen from the ATM, the police said.
Recently, a similar theft was reported in Shadnagar. Police suspect the same gang could have been involved in the SBI ATM theft cast in Mahabubnagar as well.
However, with the crime taking place in the town, people are expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district, the reports said.
