Hyderabad: The ‘Mee Suraksha’ verification drive launched recently by Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has seen a strong response from residents, with more than 18,000 citizens voluntarily registering domestic workers and household staff across the commissionerate limits.
As part of the community safety initiative launched on May 17, police, as part of the ‘Mee Suraksha’ drive, are collecting details of maids, drivers, caretakers, gardeners and private security staff to create a verified database aimed at improving public safety and preventing crimes in residential areas.
Officials said the programme is being carried out in coordination with apartment associations, gated communities and colony welfare groups.
According to police data, a total of 18,413 enrolments were recorded across the three zones under the police commissionerate. While Malkajgiri Zone topped the list with 8,771 registrations, it was followed by Uppal Zone with 4,837 and LB Nagar Zone with 4,805.
Further, among individual police stations, Shamirpet Police Station registered the highest number of enrolments at 1,643, while Uppal Police Station recorded 1,280 registrations. Malkajgiri Police Station enrolled 1,040 workers under the campaign.
Police statistics show that the majority of registered workers are Indian nationals and several foreign nationals. In total, 17,430 Indian nationals were registered, along with 975 persons from Nepal, three from Bangladesh, four from Myanmar and one from Sweden. Kushaiguda police station reported one of the highest numbers of Nepali nationals among registered domestic workers.
Officials said the verification process is being conducted across 28 law and order police stations covering 550 residential locations, including gated communities and apartments.
“Data of workers is being digitally collected through the Hawkeye Ultra App and self-registration forms in coordination with local police and resident associations,” said Kushaiguda Inspector L Bhaskar Reddy.
Officials said the initiative was intensified following recent murder and robbery cases in which domestic helpers allegedly played a role.
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi said the initiative is intended to encourage responsible hiring practices and help police maintain verified records of domestic workers employed in residential neighbourhoods.
“We request more residents to participate in the verification drive, as it is an important step towards safer homes and secure communities,” she added.
