Hossein Amir-AbdollahianIn made the remarks in a telephone conversation with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Saturday.
The two top diplomats exchanged views on the latest developments in Gaza and the cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Emphasizing the need to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime, Amir Abdollahian said, that “it is necessary to stop the military attacks by the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza as soon as possible and to provide the possibility of sending humanitarian aid.”
He warned against the plan and action of the Zionist regime to forcibly expell Palestinians from their land and emphasized, “the root cause of the current situation is the occupation and aggression of the Zionist regime, and if the Israeli regime’s war crimes against Gaza and the West Bank are not stopped, there is a possibility of war spillover.”
Amir-Abdollahian considered the supportive policies of the United States as a factor that has encouraged the Zionist regime to continue military aggression and killing civilians in Gaza, as well as an important factor in the continuation and widening of the war.
Referring to the latest cooperation status that the Islamic Republic of Iran has had with the IAEA, the Iranian foreign minister pointed out that these cooperations will continue within the technical and legal framework.
Josep Borrell, for his part, said that “it is necessary to stop the tensions and conflict in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as soon as possible.”
Borrell stressed that, “The European Union is trying to oblige Israel to respect international law.”
While clarifying the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in helping to reduce tensions in the region, he added, “We also believe that the solution to the Palestinian issue is to focus on the diplomatic path, and any continuation of military attacks will lead to the deterioration of the crisis.”
Borrell also expressed hope that constructive cooperation between Iran and the Agency will continue.
