Mahabubnagar: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that lashed several parts of the erstwhile district on Thursday night left farmers, including cattle rearers, facing severe losses, besides injuring a few persons.
In Jogulamba Gadwal district, heavy rains that lashed Manavapadu mandal wreaked havoc in the region. Accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, the downpour caused significant damage in Pedda Amudyalapadu and Jallapur villages.
At Jallapur village, the house of Boya Erranna was severely damaged due to the strong winds. As the roof collapsed, Erranna and his son Anji, who were inside at the time, sustained injuries.
Similarly, in Pedda Amudyalapadu village, a cattle shed belonging to a farmer, David, was completely destroyed due to the gusty winds. The corrugated tin-sheet roof collapsed. Fortunately, the cattle were outside at the time of the incident, averting a major tragedy.
Lightning kills cows, maize stocks soaked in Nagarkurnool
In Nagarkurnool district, three cows died after being struck by lightning at Nadimpally village. Likewise, maize stocks got soaked and washed away at the Achampet Market Yard after unseasonal rains lashed the area.
The market yard resembled a flooded lake, with a majority of the maize stocks getting soaked and damaged due to the untimely downpour. Farmers struggled to protect the remaining stocks using tarpaulin covers.
Ryots complained that they had been waiting for procurement at the market yard for several days, but the process was delayed for reasons best known to the officials.
Farmers demanded that the government procure the soaked maize stocks at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). They alleged that they had suffered heavy losses due to the negligence of the government and officials.
