Khammam, Warangal reel under intense heatwave; markets deserted

Khammam/Warangal: Residents in erstwhile Khammam and Warangal have been reeling under intense heatwave conditions as maximum temperatures crossed 46 degrees Celsius mark at many places.

A maximum temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Gowaram in Penuballi mandal of Khammam district on Thursday. Similarly, a maximum temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Edulla Bayyaram of Pinapaka mandal in Kothagudem district.

In Warangal, a maximum temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at Peddapandyal of Dharmasagar mandal, 46.3 at Vadlakonda of Jangaon mandal, 46.2 at Thorrur, 46 at Medapalle of Nallabelly mandal and 45.8 degrees Celsius was recorded at Mogullapally.

In view of the soaring temperatures the district officials have cautioned the public not to venture out during afternoon hours unless they have any important task and to take precautions while going out to protect themselves from summer heat.

Meanwhile in Kothagudem the weekly market held every Thursday at Rudrampur market area wore a deserted look as the intensity of the summer heat prevented people from stepping out of their homes.

Traders were disheartened as, unlike the usual scenario where the market bustles with activity starting from the afternoon, hardly any buyers were to be seen even past 5:30 pm. Despite waiting for hours for customers, vendors who had brought vegetables, fruits, and other goods for sale failed to achieve the expected level of sales.
