Wyra police in Khammam district arrested three interstate smugglers and seized 128 kg of ganja worth Rs 64 lakh. The contraband was being transported from Odisha to Tamil Nadu, officials said.

Khammam: Wyra police in the district have arrested three interstate ganja smugglers and seized ganja worth Rs 64 lakh.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Wyra ACP Sarangapani informed that Wyra Sub-Inspector of police P Rama Rao and his team were proceeding to conduct vehicle inspections near Anjaneyaswamy Temple at Somavaram village in Wyra Municipality limits.


They spotted three individuals standing suspiciously by the roadside with five gunny bags. Upon inspecting them, the police discovered that the five gunny bags contained a total of 60 packets holding 128 kilograms of ganja.

During questioning of the accused it was revealed that the contraband was being illegally transported from Malkangiri in Odisha to Tamil Nadu. The police arrested the trio Manuyal Bothra and Lakshman Kilo of Malkangiri district and Chitikala Sanyasi Naidu Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh.

Khammam commissionerate police would continue to take strict action against ganja transport and consumption. It was everyone’s responsibility to protect the youth from falling prey to drugs. One should report any information regarding ganja or other narcotics to the nearest police station, the ACP said.
