Hyderabad: Nine persons were arrested for allegedly attacking police personnel and pelting stones at a cattle transport vehicle in Saroornagar.

The group stopped a DCM carrying eight bulls on suspicion that the animals were being taken for slaughter.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday near Kothapet crossroads, when the vehicle transporting the bulls for a film shoot at Purani Haveli was intercepted by the group. Police said the mob assaulted the cattle handlers and attacked officers who reached the spot.

When police shifted the vehicle to a goshala at Fathullaguda for safe custody, some of the accused allegedly chased it on two-wheelers, intercepted it again near Chaitanyapuri and pelted stones at the vehicle and police team, injuring an inspector and other personnel.

Malkajgiri Commissionerate police registered a case and said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
