Iran wins Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Mexico

The Iranian men’s weightlifting team has claimed the first place at the 2023 Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Mexico, after collecting five gold medals, nine silver medals, and one bronze medal.

The Iranian men’s team, coached by Hadi Panzvan, scored a total of 660 points at the international event, which was held in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara from November 15 to 23.

This is the fifth time that Iran has won the title in the history of the Junior World Championships.

Alireza Yousefi and Alireza Nasiri were the main contributors to Iran’s success, as they secured three and two gold medals, respectively. Yousefi dominated the men’s super-heavyweight category, while his teammate Taha Nemati set a youth world record in the same division and finished second.

Nasiri won the men’s 96kg category, breaking the junior world record in the snatch.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) praised Iran’s performance in a report on its website, saying that Iran had a strong finish at the competition.

A total of 229 lifters from 44 countries participated in the 2023 IWF World Junior Weightlifting Championships.

Mexico and the United States ranked second and third, with 592 and 589 points, respectively.
