Adilabad: Maize and jowar produce was damaged due to unseasonal rains coupled with gusty winds in several parts of the district on Thursday, causing losses to farmers.

Farmers said the maize and jowar produce were transported to agriculture markets in Adilabad, Neradigonda, Bazarhathnoor and other places of the district, following unexpected rains accompanied by the strong gales.

Similarly, maize and jowar grains stored on farm platforms in farms were also drenched due to the showers plus winds.

Former minister Jogu Ramanna alleged that jowar produce kept at a market yard in Jainath mandal was damaged, resulting in losses to growers. He stated that 15,000 quintals of grains were not procured at the yard.
He said that officials’ negligence resulted in the incident. He demanded the government and local MLA Payal Shankar address the challenges faced by the farmers.

Meanwhile, similar damage to farm produce was witnessed in Nirmal and Mancherial districts. However, the quantum of loss is yet to be assessed.
