Ex minister Srinivas Goud demands BC enumeration in national census

Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud on Thursday demanded that Backward Classes (BCs) be enumerated alongside Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the national census, stating that the absence of accurate BC data was undermining social justice.

Addressing a meeting of BC leaders in Hyderabad, Srinivas Goud expressed regret that the Central Government has not included a separate column in the census for recording details related to the BC community.

During the programme, Legislative Council Opposition Leader V Madhusudhana Chary, Government Advisor V Hanumanth Rao, MLC Nellikanti Satyam, and BC JAC Chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud unveiled a special poster prepared ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana on Sunday.

The poster seeks answers from the Prime Minister to 10 questions concerning the BC community.

The former Minister alleged that despite constituting a significant share of the country’s population, BCs are not receiving proportionate political and social representation. He also questioned the Centre on its failure to constitute a dedicated Ministry for OBCs and inadequate budgetary allocations for their welfare.

“Along with SCs and STs, if BC families are not enumerated in the census, a nationwide tour will be conducted to create awareness about the injustice being done to BCs,” Goud warned.
