Jeevan Reddy stages marathon sit‑in in Mancherial, demands compensation to farmers’ kin

Mancherial: BRS state general secretary T Jeevan Reddy said that the government was neglecting challenges of farmers. He along with former Mancherial MLA Diwakar Rao began a marathon sit-in demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh to each kin of four farmers who were killed when walls of sheds collapsed on them, in Luxettipet on Wednesday.

Facing scorching heat wave conditions, Jeevan Reddy launched the protest by sitting on the Mancherial-Jannaram-Jagtial road at 11.30 am. He was continuing the protest till 5 pm, insisting on the government to release the compensation to dependents of the farmers. He declared that he would not withdraw the protest till the government responded positively to his demand.

Mancherial RDO Srinivas and ACP R Prakash held consultations with Jeevan Reddy, but in vain. Srinivas assured to address the issue by speaking to Collector Kumar Deepak. However, Jeevan Reddy chose to continue his protest. He is likely to be arrested by the police. Traffic came to a grinding halt for a while due to the protest.
