Telangana continues to face intense heatwave conditions with temperatures crossing 43°C in several districts, including Adilabad, Medak and Nizamabad, while Hyderabad recorded around 40.6°C, with IMD and TSDPS data showing localized spikes up to 45°C-plus

Telangana under grip of severe heatwave; temperatures cross above normal

Hyderabad: The heatwave across Telangana has shown no signs of relenting as several districts continued to bake under hot sun in the last 24-hours, between Monday morning and 8.30 am on Tuesday.

According to temperature data from the India Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, north Telangana remains the epicenter of the current dry heat spell. Adilabad recorded the state’s highest temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius, a departure of 2 degree Celsius from the normal seasonal average.


In other parts of the state, the mercury consistently hovered above the 40 degree Celsius mark. Medak and Nizamabad recorded 42.8 degree Celsius and 42.6 degree Celsius respectively, while Mahabubnagar hit 42.2 degree Celsius.

Hyderabad Records 40.6 degree Celsius/ GHMC Under Yellow Alert

There was little respite from the scorching heat, as people in Hyderabad continued to struggle with the dry heat on Tuesday. Based on IMD, Hyderabad temperature data, Begumpet recorded a maximum of 40.6 degree celsius, which is nearly a degree above the normal. Other areas within the GHMC limits that recorded high temperatures include Hakimpet (41) and Hayathnagar (40).

TSDPS granular data reveals localized extremes

While the IMD provided a broader temperature data, the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), which has more number of weather stations, the temperature data reveals localized surge.

The TSDPS grid, which utilizes a higher number of automated measuring stations, recorded 45.8 degree Celsius at Balkonda in Nizamabad and 45.7 degree Celsius at Mallapur in Jagtial. In Hyderabad, the TSDPS data indicated that MCH Colony Library Building in Musheerabad recorded a high of 42.6 degree Celsius.
