Adilabad: Standing maize crop in two acres was damaged due to an alleged electric short-circuit at Bhutayi village in Bazarhathnoor mandal on Saturday.

Farmers Jaivanth Rao and Maruthi claimed that their crop was burnt, resulting in a loss of Rs 1.80 lakh. They alleged that the cause of the fire was an electric short-circuit. They urged Agriculture officials to conduct a survey and provide compensation for crop damage. They regretted that maize, jowar and other standing crops were being damaged by fires.

Agriculture officials inspected the affected crop and said that a report would be submitted to higher officials. They stated that steps would be taken to support the farmers. They said that they were studying the causes of fire accidents that damaged crops in the district. They added that they were coordinating with officials of NPDCL and the Fire department to prevent such mishaps.

On Friday, a standing maize crop raised in two acres belonging to Maruthi was gutted in the same village. Boath MLA Anil Jadhav provided financial aid to farmers whose maize crop was burnt due to an electric short-circuit at Nigini village recently.
