Kurumidda farmers intensify protest against land acquisition for Future City project

Hyderabad: Like the Lagacharla farmers issue, which hit the headlines, farming community in Kurumidda village are protesting against acquisition of their lands, and their protest has drawn national attention.

For last 43 days, the Kurumidda village farmers in Ibrahimpatnam constituency, have been staging protests against acquisition of their lands for laying radial roads to Future City. They are also demanding that the government scrap the Future City and Pharma City projects.

Moved by the farmers protest, the Mahila Kisan Adhikaar Manch (MAKAAM), a national level organization, Chaitanya Mahila Sangham and other organizations visited the protest camp on Saturday. Along with MAKAAM National Committee Member S Ashalatha, others interacted with farmers.
During the interaction, the farmers informed them that they have been fighting against the Pharma City project. While in opposition, the Congress senior leaders Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Malreddy Rangareddy and others extended support to our protest, they said.

“They assured that after coming to power, the Pharma City project would be scrapped. However, the Congress government is now asking to us to part our lands. Using police force, the government is even threatening us,” the farmers complained.

Despite the court directions, the government is insisting on land acquisition and leaving the small and marginal farmers displaced, the community charged.

The farmers are demanding that the government scrap the pharma city project, suspend the greenfield radial roads to Future City. They also want their names to be uploaded in the online data and register lands on their names, besides providing all rights on the lands.

The Congress government has been facing backlash for its attempts to acquire lands for different projects.

In October 2024, farmers in Lagacharla, Polepally and Hakimpet protested against acquisition of their lands for establishing pharma villages.

Similarly, in March 2025, the Government drew national attention for the Kancha Gachibowli lands controversy and destruction.

In September 2025, farmers in Nalgonda and Sangareddy staged protests against acquisition of their lands for southern part of Regional Ring Road.

Farmers vehemently opposed land acquisition for the Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation project and cement factory in Ramannapet, Nalgonda. The notice served to Madhu Park Ridge residents seeking their seven acres land for Gandhi Sarovar project had triggered widespread protests.
