Bengaluru: A major twist has emerged in the Bengaluru murder case, where a young man identified as Kiran was allegedly killed by his girlfriend Prema. The accused has now confessed to the crime during police interrogation, police said on Wednesday.
According to police sources, Prema admitted that she blindfolded Kiran and tied his hands and legs to a bed, poured kerosene on him, and set him on fire after he refused to marry her and began distancing himself.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West Division), D.L. Nagesh, said that the case initially appeared to be a suicide. However, investigation later confirmed it to be a murder involving petrol and kerosene.
Police said Kiran and Prema had first met in August last year. On Valentine’s Day this year, Prema had expressed her love for Kiran, which he reportedly accepted. She had also allegedly planned to gift him a luxury bike and mobile phone worth around Rs 4.5 lakh. On the day of the incident, the couple had reportedly gone together to check out a bike.
However, the relationship reportedly turned strained in recent months after Kiran began distancing himself from Prema, leaving her deeply disturbed.
Investigators said Prema had allegedly planned the crime in advance and had purchased petrol and kerosene beforehand. She is also said to have intended to end her own life after the act.
On the day of the incident, another argument reportedly broke out between the two over marriage, following which she allegedly tied him to a bed and set him on fire.
Kiran died on the spot after suffering severe burn injuries.
Byadarahalli police have taken Prema into custody and are conducting further interrogation. Officials have also seized the materials used in the crime.
Police are investigating whether she acted alone or if anyone else was involved in the incident.
It can be recalled that Karnataka Police had arrested the accused woman on charges of killing her boyfriend after tying him up and setting him on fire under the pretext of a Western-style proposal.
The incident was reported within the Bidadi Police Station limits, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Kiran. The deceased and the accused woman Prema were reportedly working in the same company and had been in a relationship for the past few months.
