DGP seeks legal opinion on action against BJP MP Tejaswi Surya over remarks on Telangana formation

Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy said legal opinion has been sought on a request to take action against BJP MP Tejaswi Surya over his remarks comparing Telangana’s formation with Pakistan’s separation from India. The issue was raised after a minister’s complaint.

DGP seeks legal opinion on action against BJP MP Tejaswi Surya over remarks on Telangana formation

Karimnagar: Director General of Police, B Shivadhar Reddy said his department sought legal opinion on the demand to take action against BJP MP Tejaswi Surya for his comments comparing the Telangana’s formation with that of Pakistan separating from India.

The BJP MP made these comments in Parliament on Thursday.


While all sections irrespective of political affiliations from Telangana reacted seriously to the MP’s comments, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar wrote a letter to DGP requesting him to take action on Tejaswi Surya.

When asked about the Minister’s letter, DGP said that according to Article 105, it was not possible to take action against the members of legislative bodies for their comments in their respective houses.

Though it was not possible to take action, they sent it for legal opinion, DGP said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
