Hyderabad: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Thursday announced the introduction of a Player Contract System, marking a landmark and progressive step in the evolution of Mumbai cricket. It is the first association to introduce such a system in India.
This initiative ushers in a new era by providing financial security, professional structure, and long-term development pathways for emerging cricketers. Mumbai became one of the first state associations in India to formalise such a system, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining its legacy of excellence.
The contracts will be awarded to eligible players based on performance, fitness benchmarks, and recommendations of the Selection Committee. The system is designed to support players who are on the cusp of higher honours, ensuring stability and motivation to perform consistently at the domestic level.
Player Contract Structure
As per the approved framework, players will be categorised into three grades:
Grade A: Rs 12,00,000 to Rs 20,00,000 per annum
Grade B: Rs 8,00,000 to Rs 12,00,000 per annum
Grade C: Rs 8,00,000 per annum
In addition to the annual retainer, players will be entitled to match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based incentives, as per MCA policies.
Key objectives of the initiative include providing financial stability to Mumbai players, establishing a structured professional environment, encouraging performance consistency and fitness standards, creating a strong pipeline for higher-level cricket, and retaining and nurturing emerging talent within the Mumbai cricket ecosystem.
