Hamas lauds Turkey, Honduras for recalling ambassadors from Tel Aviv

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has hailed Turkey and Honduras for recalling their ambassadors from the occupied territories in protest at the Israeli regime’s genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip.

In a statement published on Sunday, Hamas hailed the move by Ankara and called on Turkey and all the Arab and Islamic countries to take further measures to deter the occupation state and its aggression and pressure the US administration to end its support for the Israeli war crimes.

It also urged the countries to work on facilitating the evacuation of wounded civilians to hospitals outside Gaza and providing the population with their relief and medical needs.

Hamas also welcomed Honduras’ measure of recalling its ambassador from Tel Aviv in protest of the regime’s violations of the international humanitarian law in Gaza.

“The decision is a step in the right direction, and we ask the Honduran government to completely sever its relations with this rogue entity that has no regard for any international laws or conventions,” Hamas statement said.

On Saturday, Turkey’s foreign ministry announced that its country recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv for consultations due to ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza.

The ministry said Sakir Ozkan Torunlar was recalled: “in view of the unfolding humanitarian tragedy in Gaza caused by the continuing attacks by Israel against civilians, and Israel’s refusal of calls for a ceasefire and continuous and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid.”

On Friday, Honduras’ top diplomat confirmed they have recalled the ambassador of the Republic of Honduras in Israel in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Amid the grave humanitarian situation, the Palestinian civilian population suffers in the Gaza Strip, the government of President Xiomara Castro has decided to immediately call Mr. Roberto Martinez, ambassador of the Republic of Honduras in Israel, to consultations in Tegucigalpa,” The Honduran foreign minister tweeted.

Colombia and Chile had earlier recalled their envoys from the occupied territories, while Bolivia has moved to sever its diplomatic ties with the occupying entity.

Elsewhere across Latin America, Mexico and Brazil, have also called for a ceasefire.

Israel has been bombing Gaza since October 7, when the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movements launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in response to the Israeli regime’s intensified crimes against Palestinians.

The Israeli war on Gaza has so far killed nearly 9,500 Palestinians, including nearly 3,900 children and 2,509 women, and over 24,160 Palestinians have also been wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

In recent days, international anger over Israel’s genocidal crimes in Gaza has grown. There have been more massive popular rallies around the world in protest at Israel’s daily massacres in the embattled coastal enclave.
