Hyderabad: A mishap was narrowly averted, reportedly after a mobile phone battery exploded inside a passenger’s bag at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported, but the incident triggered brief panic and security checks.
As per information available, the incident took place when a passenger, who was scheduled to board a flight to Raipur, was undergoing routine baggage screening. During the scanning process, the mobile phone battery suddenly exploded, emitting smoke and causing panic among passengers and alarming the airport authorities.
The security personnel responded promptly and brought the situation under control immediately. The fire and safety teams also reached the spot.
Officials suspect that the explosion may have been caused by a defective battery.
