Hyderabad: Tension prevailed for a while at the State Human Rights Commission office in Nampally after a woman attempted self-immolation, alleging harassment by the police on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Shravani from Kavadiguda, reportedly took the extreme step as she was unable to bear alleged harassment by Gandhi Nagar police.
In a desperate act of protest against what she claimed was injustice, she poured petrol on herself and attempted to set herself ablaze in front of the commission office.
However, the alert police personnel present at the spot responded immediately and snatched away the petrol bottle from her, preventing a major tragedy.
The woman was shifted to the police station and further inquiry into her allegations is underway.
