KTR condemns BRS leaders’ house arrests

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the house arrests of senior party leaders attempting to support protesting farmers in Vikarabad district.

He termed the detention of BRSLP deputy leaders T Harish Rao and P Sabitha Indra Reddy, along with former MLAs Koppula Mahesh Reddy, Narender Reddy, and Vikarabad district president Methuku Anand, as a cowardly act. He accused the government of using police force to crush dissent.

“Silencing opposition voices through coercion is nothing short of murdering democracy,” he said. Demanding the immediate release of detained leaders, he called for an immediate halt to the proposed 1,200 acre land acquisition.

In a statement, Rama Rao accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of betraying promises to people and targeting farmers’ lands. He said the government failed to implement key assurances, including Rythu Bharosa, farm loan waivers, and the Six Guarantees, while forcibly pushed for land acquisition.

Pointing out that no major industry was established in over two years of Congress rule, the BRS working president questioned the urgency for land acquisition. He charged that the Congress leaders were trying to loot farm lands like spoils.

He reiterated that arrests and cases would not deter the BRS, reminding the party’s history of resistance during the Telangana movement. He warned that intimidation tactics would fail and vowed to continue backing farmers.
