Three persons, including a couple from Rajahmundry, died and three others were injured in separate road accidents in Khammam district. The incidents involved collisions on a highway bridge and a truck falling off an unfinished bridge in Tallada mandal.

Khammam: Three persons died and three were seriously injured in different road accidents in Khammam on Monday.
In an accident on a bridge on NSP Bonakal branch canal near Konijerla on the Wyra-Khammam highway, a man and his wife lost their lives. According to eyewitnesses, a car going from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad, while overtaking a vehicle, rammed into a truck that hit the bridge railing while trying to avoid hitting the car.
Then a truck going to Khammam from Wyra hit both the car and the truck. The injured victims were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Khammam for treatment. Two occupants of the car, Undamatla Veerraju (48) and his wife Veerashailaja (36) of Rajahmundry, died while undergoing treatment, while their son Yashwanth (15) was in a serious condition.
The accident occurred when the couple was travelling to Hyderabad to enrol their son, Yashwanth, who had recently passed the tenth grade, in a junior college in the city.
A truck driver, Alagonu Srinu, who sustained severe injuries, was also in a critical condition. Vehicular movement on the main road came to a standstill, resulting in a traffic jam. The local SI Suraj and staff rushed to the spot and cleared the wreckage from the accident site with the assistance of a JCB.
In another incident, on an unfinished bridge between Gudur-Mittapalli villages in Tallada mandal during the early hours of the day, a truck carrying a paddy load fell off the bridge while trying to avoid a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. The truck was going to Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh after loading paddy at Vengannapet.
The vehicle cleaner M Jogeshwar Rao (38) of Madakapalem in Anakapalli district in Andhra Pradesh died on the spot, while the driver S Santhosh Kumar was seriously injured. The local police registered a case in connection with the incident.
